If you are considering newborn photos for your family when your baby arrives, enjoy this post to guide you in preparing for your big day! Preparing for your newborn session can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience! Who wouldn’t want to capture those precious early moments of your baby’s life. Below, you’ll find a perfect guide to help you prepare for your newborn session. Remember, if you encounter any challenges or are unable to follow all the guidelines, don’t worry—I’m here to help and ensure we capture the timeless images you envision.
Before the Newborn Session
Baby’s Bath: Give your baby a bath the day before the session to ensure they’re fresh and clean for their photoshoot.
Diet Considerations: If you’re breastfeeding, try to avoid consuming spicy or gas-inducing foods 24 hours before the session, as these can upset your baby’s tummy. Opt for a bland diet during this time.
Circumcision: Please refrain from circumcising your son less than 6 days prior to the session due to potential discomfort during posing.
Day of the Newborn Session
Keeping Baby Awake: It’s important to keep your baby awake for at least 2 hours before the session to increase the chances of them sleeping soundly during the shoot. Some tips to keep your baby awake include giving them a bath, getting them naked, tickling their feet, or lightly wetting their feet.
Feeding and Pacifier: Have a bottle of formula or breast milk ready for the session, along with a pacifier if needed. Full feedings upon arrival at the studio are recommended, so plan your baby’s day accordingly.
Clothing: Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes to avoid any lines on their skin. A onesie that opens in the front is ideal for easy access during the session.
During the Session
Comfort: Our Alexandria Virgina studio will be kept warm to ensure your baby remains comfortable throughout the session. Dress in layers to maintain your own comfort.
Duration: Newborn sessions typically last around 3 hours, with additional time required if a toddler is involved.
Rest and Relaxation: Take advantage of this time to rest while I work with your newborn baby. I’ll ask for assistance if needed, but your comfort and relaxation are a priority.
Guests: Limit the number of guests to yourself, your spouse/partner, and children. With advanced planning we do allow grandparents.
No Cameras: Please refrain from using cameras during the session to maintain a focused and comfortable environment. Trust that I will capture beautiful images for you to cherish.
